Oh, to be busy and in college

10/6/2012

Oh, college.  You steal away my free time. :(

BUT, thanks to lots of people's requests, I've set aside a bit of time to continue work on product reviews and tips and cheats!

Unfortunately, I am currently updating while procrastinating from writing a (rather important) paper, so not a huge amount will be done. However, please continue to provide input on what you would like to see more development in, as well as what helped you most! I am going to add in a new poll to help you provide better feedback! :)

Also, since I have yet to mention it, meet Lady Lady, my newest addition! She is a lovely, fun and really dopey Cambodian (pink/red) CT marble. She lives in a planted 5.5g with her three pals: Dude, Little, and Buttoucher (long story!) I adore her, and so does her daddy... Hmm! Lucky for him, if/when he wants Lady as part of his brood, he can have her.

I just can't tear away a daddy's girl from her daddy... especially when he baby talks her!

It's summertime, and that means... BLOG BLOG BLOG

Hey cool kids!

Well, after a very long hiatus, I'm happy to say that I hope to work on my blog again. I've been learning so much these past few months and am very excited to put my new knowledge to good use for you all.

I'll be going through and cleaning up articles since weebly has finally added some really useful new features as well as creating more. I especially hope to focus on Things We Love and Wall of Shame! since I've been experimenting with new products.

Also, welcome my newest little friend, Prince Cheddar Cheese! I usually just call him "Ched". He's from a local pet store and was once almost too weak to swim from lack of space in the pet store. He's now happy, active and quite a little grumpy butt.

But more on him later!

So much neglect! But Im back!

12/18/2011

I feel bad. I've neglected this poor site so badly for so long! Shame on me.

I'm back, though, with new guides and more things to help with all things bettas!

In the works right now:
- Converting my NEW plant guide
- A blurb on snails
- More in Things We Love!
- Ideas for how to set up a tank in Habitats
- Easy ways to baffle common types of filters in Habitats
- What to look for in a new betta fish/fish at the store in Care
- A note on "Baby Bettas" from Petsmart in Care as well as Wall of Shame! (Grr!)
- All things DIY in Habitats

Picture
I will also be adding new photos, introducing my roommate and her fish, as well as updating everyone about my own. Sadly, my best buddy Baller passed away a while ago from a huge infection. Nothing I could do would fix it, but he fought hard to stay with me for as long as he could. Rest in peace my sweetest little friend!

Plants, plants and more plants!

8/8/2011

I recently created another plant guide. It's now better than the first!

The new guide has:

-More types of plants
-Info on how to propagate
-Info about fertilizers
-Info on substrates
-Info on lighting
- What plants to avoid (non-aquatics)
 And much more!

I need to re-format it to fit this site, but it should be done soon. I hope it helps you out! :)

Plant on, my friends, plant on!!

Also, in sadder news...

Alle passed away a little while ago. Old age and illness caught up to him.

♥♥♥♥ I'll miss you, grumpy old fella, lots and lots! ♥♥♥♥

Holy not been around in a while!

7/26/2011

Oh goodness! I'm sorry for the articles taking so long and so few updates. Summer's been a busy time for me this year.

I'm happy to say that Cycling for Dummies has content, finally! It's not the final article, but information on Fish-In cycling can be found there. I hope to get a better article (with more pictures, of course- you know me...) up shortly.

I may add to the Easy Care Plant Guide, as well as create a page on fertilizers, substrates, lighting and the like. For bettafish.com members, I will post the altered guide on the site and ask for a sticky. I wonder if I'll get it? :O

I think I'm going to work on Things We Love and and The Wall of Shame in the next few weeks.

Hopefully my getting Portal 2 won't interfere too much with writing... Maybe! ; )

Update on Baller and Alle:

Baller's looking well, feeling great! His tail is growing back slower than usual, but with color. I'll take the color over speed any day.
He's currently being taught to chase my finger in a circular pattern, without biting it. Lucky for me, he's getting the knack of it. unlucky for me, this kid just really loves to eat my fingers.

Alle is feeling less awesome.
I discovered he's got raised scales on one side of his face, so off to QT he went at Dad's (Dan's) house. Unfortunately, (not sure how Dan didn't notice...) his scales got worse and began to decay/fuzz while I was on vacation. He's now no longer in an epsom bath, but in Jungle Fungus Clear.
I hope he gets well again. :'(

Whooohoooo!!

6/4/2011

Fin Rot 101 is FINALLY finished! Go take a peek! It took forever (sorry!) because my hosting site's formatting options were going bonkers and kept deleting things and switching text around, ugh!

Friends on bettafish.com, would you like to see this as a how-to guide on the site, like my others? : )?

Up next is Cycling For Dummies, a guide to the fish-in Freshwater Cycle! I hope to finish in the next one or two weeks for everyone. Keep checking back to see!

Edit:  The "Great Betta Sites" tab is now listed under "Things We Love", which houses that tab as well as two review tabs, about stuff we love in Products We Love...and the Wall of Shame!, where bad and defective products will be put to shame!

Just wanted to take a second and introduce everyone to Allister, aka "Alli", our newest fish. He's Balthier's brother and he's SO cute! Welcome, little fella!

Cycling for Dummies :D

Well, not to say that any of you are dummies, but Cycling for Dummies is in the works. It's a mini-guide for fish-in cycling, because I know from experience how cruddy a lot of information about cycling is. This guide will include an explanation of what the Cycling process is, what it does, how to keep your cycle going and of course... Water changes!

Fin Rot 101, half way here!

5/27/2011

Fin Rot 101 is halfway there! Right now the information for treating mild to moderate fin rot is up, though it lacks pictures. (If you have any to give and you're from bettafish.com, let me know!) Please check it out at Fin Rot 101.

I'm going to be in Rhode Island from Saturday to Tuesday, so no new updates, booo! I'm sorry. Hopefully in that time more friends will post pictures, which the article is in desperate need of. I can't wait to come back and work more on it, and making Cycling for Dummies! :D <3

Happy weekend, bettakeepers! I hope it treats you well, and for those in the mid-west, I pray for you with all this nutso weather! <3

New fishie things: I got a small amazon sword today, my first. They're young, so here's hoping they last and grow up healthy. I'll keep everyone posted with what I find out about them. Live and learn!

Cough Cough!

5/23/2011

Hey, everyone!

Sorry new posts have been so slow. I've had a pretty nasty some-sort-of sickness for the past week and its really doing a number on me. Hopefully now that I feel a little better, the articles will have more progress made on them.

Thanks for being patient with me and my cough-y self! :D <3

Keep checking up on the site for the new additions throughout the week!

Some exciting things going on at Betta Splendid:

Finrot 101 is coming to the disease section! It will be a basic reference for finrot; how to recognize, how to treat and how to prevent. If you are from bettafish.com and have photos of advanced fin rot you took and would like to contribute, please private message me (Pewpewpew) or email me!

Fish-in Cycling quick guide is coming under Habitats soon! This will be a guide that is more in-depth than most guides, including when and how much to do for water changes, what you need to test the water, and how to make sure your fish is safe! Very exciting! :D

General Q&A questions asked by bettafish.com members will be answered! Thank you to all who asked questions, I hope to get to all of them quickly. ♥ This will also be posted to bettafish.com once there is enough questions posted. This will be an ongoing project, and new questions and answers will be posted first on the blog!
